Don't keep letting precious memories slip away...
You need this daily exercise that takes <3 mins...

Howdy,
I realized a secret many of the most successful people share.
They’re not the smartest.
They’re not the funniest.
They’re not the best-looking.
They’re the best storytellers.
This sent me deep down a rabbit hole to learn more.
The most impactful book I ended up reading on the subject is Storyworthy by Matthew Dicks.
In interviews, people always ask him…
How do you have so many good stories?
He’s got a simple answer.
I’ve been doing it for ~1 year and it’s changed my life…
Today, we have:
1. Parenting thing: Do this 3-minute exercise so your fondest memories don’t disappear.
2. Business thing: How you operate like an FBI hostage negotiator.
3. Internet thing: That’s Jason Bourne…
(If you were forwarded this email, subscribe here).
1. Parenting thing: a 3-minute daily exercise that ensures your best memories don’t fade away.
So, what’s Matthew’s secret to an endless treasure trove of story ideas?
He calls it homework for life.
ANYONE can do it.
Create a spreadsheet.
In column one, enter a date.
In column two, write down your most storyworthy thing.
Repeat every day before bed.

Here’s what mine looks like…
Most days, you won’t have anything that seems notable.
Some days will be full of nuggets.
Just keep at it.
Here are the 3 things I’ve learned from doing this for ~ 1 year….
You get a space to capture all those funny moments with your kids and the priceless ability to time travel. Like the time my son told me he met a kid named “Doorbuckle Sandwich” on July 6, 2023. I can remember exactly where we were, what he was wearing, and how much we laughed.
You start to develop a muscle for seeing these little, special moments in your life. It makes you more grateful, more observant, and a better human.
You feel bad when you skip a day because 3 days later, you’ll have no recollection of what happened and it’s gone forever.
Bonus: Think about how much easier it will to be write a speech for your kid’s wedding with this in your back pocket…
2. Business thing: How to operate like an FBI hostage negotiator.
Most of us get defensive when someone attacks.
But, if you’re a hostage negotiator, that’s not an option.
Chris Voss used to be the lead international hostage negotiator for the FBI.
His book, Never Split The Difference, outlines his career and the things he learned along the way.
Here’s his simple tip for getting someone to tell you more when they come on strong…
3. Internet thing: That’s Jason Bourne…
🤣🤣🤣
